Hello, my name is Dave Mann. I am a
Detroit Michigan Truck/Automotive Engineer and Lubrication
Specialist with 24 years OEM industry engineering experience.
I am also a longstanding Professional
Grade member of the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE). This
prestigious position is ONLY granted to degreed engineers with
documented professional work experience in the vehicle and
component engineering industry.

I am a Power Stroke Diesel
engine, powertrain and chassis expert and are here to help
you achieve optimum performance and longevity from your
truck.
This page covers the 6.0L and 7.3L
Power Stroke Diesel.
This link will take you to our 6.4L Power Stroke Diesel page
The 99-2003 7.3L Powerstroke is intercooled,
turbocharged and utilizes an electronically controlled
wastegated turbo. The crankshaft is extremely heavy duty,
the pistons are re-designed for superior combustion. Power
is set at 250 Hp and 505 lb.-ft. torque for automatics and
275 Hp and 520 lb.-ft. torque for the manual trans models.
In the fall of 2003 Ford released the all new 6.0L
Powerstroke. The bore was reduced from 4.11 in. to 3.73
in. and the stroke was reduced by 0.05 in. to 4.13 in. The
block has been completely re-engineered and strengthened and
the heads have 4 vales per cylinder with the injector
centered in the cylinder which significantly improves the
breathing ability and combustion efficiency.
The 6.0L utilizes the same HEUI (Hydraulic Electronic Unit
Injectors) as the 7.3L but at 26,000 psi vs. 21,000 psi for
the 7.3L. It also has a all new variable turbo called EVRT (
Electronic Variable Response Turbocharging) which provides a
much more efficient and responsive turbo than a wastegated
turbo and increased power for towing or climbing steep
grades.. Boost rate is controlled by a unisyn ring, which is
a movable trim ring around the compressor blades that
controls boost. What this new system does is optimizes boost
at any RPM range without the restriction as in a wastegated
turbocharger.
The 6.0L injectors are the same type of Split Shot
injectors (Generation 2) used on the later model 7.3L
Powerstroke, which inject the fuel in stages during the idle
and compression stroke to provide for a much quieter engine
and reduced emissions. The injector's plunger is coated with
tungsten carbide to provide fuel system robustness and
incrased tolerance to lower-lubricity low sulfer fuels.
Power is set by Ford Engineering at 325 Hp and 560 lb.-ft.
torque. Specific aftermarket upgrades can produce 400 Hp.
and 700 lb-.ft. torque, however be extremely cautious when
modifying the 6.0L Powerstroke. Utilize components and
systems which are properly engineered and tested; my
personal favorite is Banks Power.
Another feature of this engine is that the exhaust gas
temperature (EGT) is monitored by a sensor and sent back to
the computer for a closed loop feedback system which can
prevent excessive turbocharger temps and potential engine
damage.. The 7.3L does not have this feature, which is why
it is critical to install an exhaust gas pyrometer in the
downpipe of any modified 7.3L Powerstrokes to monitor EGT's.
The 6.0L Powerstroke also has an internal oil cooler which
helps keep oil temps low during severe duty without the
potential for damage such as with an external oil cooler.
The Powerstroke lubrication system consists of a
low-pressure system and a high-pressure system. The low
pressure system is a typical oil pump that provides primary
engine lubrication. The high-pressure pump system
operates at very high pressures in order to provide the
necessary hydraulic pressure to actuate the fuel injectors.
This is called a Hydraulic Electronic Unit Injector system,
or HEUI for short.
There is an oil reservoir on the front top of the engine
that supplies oil for the high pressure pump. This oil level
in this reservoir does not need to be regularly checked.
There is a small Allen screw on top of the reservoir that
has to be removed to check the oil level and if oil needs to
be added it must be done with a syringe.
The oil in this reservoir and hydraulic lines does not drain
out of the system when an oil change is performed. The
quantity of oil that remains is about 5% of the total system
capacity. There is a time consuming and difficult procedure
to remove the oil from this system, however I do not
recommend it. The remaining oil will eventually mix with the
engine oil and be insignificant. The percentage will also
become less as oil is used and replaced and filter changes
are performed for those people that extend oil changes using
a by-pass system and oil analysis testing.
One of the most common concerns as well as misconceptions
with Powerstroke owners is that they usually have heard from
someone, often a diesel mechanic, that the oil must be
changed regularly because the oil foams and when it foams it
cannot act as a good hydraulic fluid. There is also a
myth that whenever a Powerstroke is not running properly
that the first thing to do is change the oil because it may
be foaming. The problem is that they have been given bits
and pieces of information. Here is the in-depth issue:
The reason that so many mechanics believe that is because
several years ago there was a leaching problem with the RTV
silicone used to seal the oil pan to the engine. Chemicals
in the RTV leached into the oil and caused it to foam. The
owner of the vehicle would bring it in for service and after
everything was checked over the mechanic could usually find
nothing wrong, so they then changed the oil and the problem
went away. From then on the word spread that the oil should
be suspect in poor running Powerstrokes and that it requires
frequent oil changes to prevent this foaming.
About that time Ford and International determined what the
problem was with the leaching RTV and started adding anti-foamant
concentrate to the engine oil of all new Powerstrokes.
Problem solved. However as myth spread that this additive
was being used people were often led to believe they need to
put it in with each oil change. That is absolutely not true.
The anti-foamant (available at Navistar Dealers p/n
CH1824392) is only to be used when an oil pan is removed,
resealed and replaced.
Over the years there has been so much misinformation out
there because nobody ever gets the complete facts.
Additionally, because of this misinformation it is often
propagated by many well meaning people that only certain
oils can be run in the Powerstroke and that whatever oil
they use, must be changed every 3000-5000 miles. Although
this is a typical manufacturer recommended drain interval,
there are superior synthetic lubricants and filtration
systems that can drastically extend oil changes.
One of the most common oils recommended for the Powerstroke
to deal with this foaming issue is Shell Rotella T. Rotella
T is a good quality petroleum oil. However, there are
superior lubricants such as AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel
Oil or AMSOIL Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil (HDD)
For example in the ASTM D892 Sequence 2 Foam Testing the
AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil and Series 3000 5W-30 HDD
produced only a trace of foam. The Shell Rotella T produced
15 ML of foam. The test limit is 20 ML.
In the ASTM D892 Sequence 4 Foam Testing the AMSOIL 15W-40
Synthetic Diesel Oil produced 15 ML of foam while the AMSOIL
Series 3000 5W-30 HDD produced 25 ML of foam. The
Shell Rotella T produced 50 ML of foam. The test limit of 50
ML.
The fact is AMSOIL Synthetic Diesel Oil is clearly not prone
to foaming or contributory to the foam-caused driveability
problems of the Powerstroke engine. AMSOIL clearly
dissipates foam faster than Shell Rotella T.
Varnish Deposits
Take a look at the varnish deposits
in this picture. These are the results of a severe high temperature
deposit test. The one at the far right is AMSOIL Synthetic
15W-40 Diesel oil and the others are major brand petroleum diesel
oils. (left to right: Chevron Delo 400, Cummins Premium Blue, Shell
Rotella T, AMSOIL (15W-40). The test clearly shows that AMSOIL keeps
engines cleaner longer than other major brand diesel oils do. Which
oil would you rather have protecting your engine?

I am here to help you learn the
facts and show you how you can use AMSOIL motor oil and get a
superior product and also increase the performance and add to
the longevity of your Ford Diesel Powerstroke plus save time and
money.
The Powerstroke Diesel is an
excellent vehicle and exceptionally well engineered by Ford Motor
Company and Navistar. In my opinion it is one of the best
vehicles ever produced, however there are ways to make the
performance and longevity even better with AMSOIL Synthetic
Lubricants.
pecifically
for the Ford Powerstroke Diesel AMSOIL engineers and manufactures a 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel Oil
(as well as
Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Synthetic) that when
used in conjunction with the AMSOIL Eao-99 engine oil filter
(7.3L) will allow you to travel
25,000 miles/1-year between filter changes and 25,000 miles/1-year
between oil changes for normal duty service If you use oil analysis you can usually go longer than 25,000
miles. Other AMSOIL benefits include reduced sludge and deposit formation, extreme
temperature protection, improved fuel efficiency and rust and
corrosion prevention and it does not void any new vehicle warranty.
AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants meet and exceed all
API rated and Ford specifications.
The
other option is to install an AMSOIL Dual Remote By-Pass Filtration System.
With this system you only change your oil when oil analysis
indicates. The AMSOIL Ea
full flow filter is changed at 25,000 mile intervals and
the by-pass filter is changed at approximately 25,000 miles for normal
duty service. The AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Heavy Duty Oil
or the Series 3000 5W-30 HDD does not break down like conventional
petroleum based motor oils, is much more shear stable and does not
have the waxes, paraffins and by-products that come out of crude oil
that is pumped from the earth.
The
by-pass filter removes the particles that cause wear in your engine
down to less than one micron (a micron equals 0.001 mm) and keeps the
engine oil analytically clean so you do not need to change your oil
for a long time, while still getting far better protection than
someone that changes their oil every 3000 miles. We are experienced at
installing these units on Powerstroke Diesels (and all vehicles) and can provide you with
exact installation instructions, tips, bracket prints and photographs.
The
Performance Oil Technology Powerstroke Diesel vehicle #3 had over
87,000 miles on the same AMSOIL 15W-40 Synthetic Diesel Oil
prior to changing to the AMSOIL Series 3000 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel
Oil.
Laboratory oil chemical analysis every 15-20,000 miles indicates the
oil is perfectly suitable for continued service. Other customers have
traveled well over 100,000 miles and oil analysis still indicates no
oil change necessary. I will mail you a copy of vehicle #3's oil
analysis results with your product and technical information
package so you can see the data for yourself. In addition, the AMSOIL By-Pass filter will also remove up to a pint of water from your
vehicle's lubrication system, which is especially important in a
diesel engine. Without this the water promotes rust, corrosion
and rapid wear. Internal engine heat also creates acids which also
wear the engine components. The water and acids build and
continue to work destroying your engine even after engine shutdown.
Oil
analysis provides a big return for your small investment by extending
equipment life by preventing premature component failure, reducing
maintenance costs by eliminating unnecessary component changes and a
decrease in downtime due to premature scheduled maintenance as well
enabling calculation of optimum drain intervals that will reduce
lubricant costs and assure maximum equipment protection.
Your
average regular full flow engine oil filter will only remove wear particles
down to the 20-25 micron range. The filter cannot remove finer
particles because the oil must be filtered quickly while removing most
of the particles present in the oil, except the particles below the 20
micron range. A study completed by Federal Mogul Corp. analyzing
over 7000 main and connecting rod bearings concluded that 60% of all
engine wear occurs in the 5-20 micron range. This is why no
matter how much you change your current full flow oil and filter,
regardless of brand, that you still are not removing the particles
that cause the greatest wear in your engine.
If
you choose not to install the Dual Remote by-pass
filtration system then the
AMSOIL Ea Oil
Filter would be of a significant benefit to the
long term durability of your engine as well as
allowing for 25,000 miles of service on the filter and
25,000 miles/1-year on the oil.
Ea Oil Filters
feature advanced full synthetic nanofiber
technology,
making
them
the
highest
efficiency
filters
that
are
available
for
the
auto/light
truck
market.
They
have an absolute efficiency rating of 98.7% at 15 microns and 50% at
7 microns.
When you reach 25,000 miles you can either
change the oil and filter or take an oil sample from
the dipstick tube using an AMSOIL sampling pump and
send it into Oil Analyzer's Inc. using a pre-paid kit.
Oil analysis will indicate the exact condition
of the oil and whether it is suitable for continued
service as well as determining if there are any other
engine components or wear items that you need to be
concerned with.

PRODUCT
DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL
Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel & Marine Motor Oil (AME) is
a premium diesel oil providing excellent performance in
all types of diesel engines where highly effective
control of wear and deposits is vital. Built with
heavy-duty dispersant/detergent additives, its 12 TBN
chemistry neutralizes acids and controls soot thickening
from EGR and blow-by to protect against corrosion,
cylinder bore polishing (wear) and varnish/sludge
deposits. AMSOIL AME resists heat and breakdown better
than conventional petroleum oils for long lasting
performance and protection.
AMSOIL, the leader in automotive synthetic lubrication,
produced the world’s first API qualified synthetic motor
oil in 1972. Trust the extensive experience of AMSOIL
The First in Synthetics® to do the best job protecting
your engine.
Extends Drain
Intervals
AMSOIL AME can extend drain intervals far beyond those
recommended for conventional petroleum oils. Its unique
synthetic formulation and long drain additive system
deliver the best possible engine protection, cleanliness
and performance over extended drain intervals, reducing
vehicle maintenance and waste oil disposal costs.
Advanced Soot
and Wear Control Formula
AMSOIL Synthetic Heavy Duty Diesel & Marine Motor Oil is
heavily fortified with detergent/dispersant additives
and is naturally resistant to soot. It keeps soot
particles suspended independently, preventing them from
attaching together to form larger, wear-causing
particles. Viscosity increase is minimized and soot
related wear is controlled.
Maximizes Fuel
Economy, Reduces Oil Consumption and Emissions
AMSOIL AME has lower high temperature volatility
(evaporation) than conventional petroleum oils. Because
less oil vapor passes into the combustion chamber, oil
consumption and emissions are reduced. Lower volatility
helps AMSOIL AME retain its viscosity after high
temperature service for excellent fuel economy and
continued dependable protection.
Excellent Cold
Flow Properties
AMSOIL AME remains fluid down to -51°F. It eases cold
weather starting and provides vital start-up lubrication
to prevent engine wear. AME outperforms conventional
15W-40 petroleum oils and greatly minimizes the impact
of cold weather operation.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
AMSOIL Series 3000 100% Synthetic 5W-30
Diesel Oil (HDD) delivers extraordinary lubrication in
both diesel and gasoline engines found in commercial,
fleet and personal vehicles. By combining the industry’s
premier synthetic technology with AMSOIL premium
additives, AMSOIL HDD exceeds the higher performance
demands of modern engines. It withstands the stress of
higher heat, higher acid levels and excessive soot
loading found in EGR equipped engines. AMSOIL Series
3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Diesel Oil consistently outperforms
conventional and synthetic diesel oils for long-lasting
performance and protection.
AMSOIL, the leader in automotive synthetic
lubrication, produced the world’s first API qualified
synthetic motor oil in 1972. Trust the extensive
experience of AMSOIL The First in Synthetics® to do the
best job protecting your engine.
EXTENDS DRAIN INTERVALS
AMSOIL HDD can extend drain intervals far beyond those
recommended for conventional oils. Its unique synthetic
formulation and long drain additive system deliver the
best possible engine protection, cleanliness and
performance over extended drain intervals, reducing
vehicle maintenance and waste oil disposal costs.
MAXIMIZES FUEL ECONOMY
AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil is energy
efficient for reduced fuel costs. Its low viscosity
minimizes “drag” associated with high viscosity oils,
allowing the engine to operate more freely, maximizing
power and fuel economy.
UNSURPASSED PROTECTION
AGAINST ENGINE WEAR
In the Four-Ball Wear Test (ASTM D-4172B) AMSOIL HDD
demonstrated better anti-wear performance than
competitive petroleum and synthetic oils. Even under
high temperatures and pressures, its superior film
strength and anti-wear additives help prevent
metal-to-metal contact. AMSOIL HDD reduces ring wear,
cylinder bore polishing, oil consumption and valve train
wear for improved engine life and lower maintenance
costs.

CONTROLS SOOT THICKENING AND
WEAR
AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil is heavily
fortified with detergent/dispersant additives and is
naturally resistant to soot. It keeps soot particles
suspended independently, preventing them from attaching
together to form larger, wear-causing particles.
Viscosity increase is minimized and soot related wear is
controlled.
REDUCES OIL CONSUMPTION AND
EMISSIONS
AMSOIL HDD loses only 6.7% of its mass to high
temperature volatility (evaporation) in the NOACK test,
outperforming all conventional oils. Because less oil
vapor passes into the combustion chamber, oil
consumption and emissions are reduced. Additionally,
lower volatility helps AMSOIL HDD retain its viscosity
after high temperature service for continued dependable
protection and excellent fuel economy.
EXCELS IN EXTREME
TEMPERATURES
AMSOIL Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil resists
thermal (heat) breakdown, oxidation and sludge formation
better than conventional oils. And unlike conventional
petroleum oils, AMSOIL HDD contains no wax. It stays
fluid down to -60°F for improved cold temperature oil
flow, reduced bearing wear and easier starting.

AMSOIL Introduces World’s First Oil Filter Cartridge for
Diesel Applications with Nanofiber Technology.
AMSOIL INC. of Superior, WI has introduced a new
premium, high efficiency cartridge oil filter utilizing
nanofiber technology for Ford 6.0L diesel engines
ranging from 2003 to 2006. The new EaO-88 is the world’s
first oil filter cartridge for diesel applications using
advanced submicron full synthetic media. The EaO-88
provides an efficiency of 98.7% at 16 microns,
significantly higher than the OEM filter.
The rigid construction of this filter is due to a
polymeric center tube and end caps, along with its
proprietary composition incorporating special grade
nanofiber synthetic media, enabling the filter to last
up to 1 year or 25,000 miles when used in conjunction
with AMSOIL synthetic motor oil. Because of its improved
oil flow, an additional benefit of this synthetic filter
media is that oil is delivered to key engine components
quicker, thus enhancing the lubrication process during
cold weather starts.
Benefits include:
- Superior filtration efficiency
- Excellent flow characteristics
- Reduced engine wear
- Rugged and durable design
Fast Fact: A nanofiber is less than one micron in
diameter. A human hair is 80 microns. |

FFK-60
|
The
AMSOIL FFK-60 Fuel Filter incorporates both a primary and
secondary filter for maximum fuel cleanliness. The primary
10 micron filter, located in the Horizontal Fuel
Conditioning Module (HFCM), performs initial fuel cleansing
before sending the clean pressurized fuel to secondary four
micron filter, mounted to the oil filter housing.
The
secondary fuel filter includes a fuel pressure regulator and
an orifice on top of the housing that bleeds air out of the
housing and back to the fuel tank. Following its trip
through the secondary filter, fuel is returned to the HFCM,
where it is either directed to the tank or returned to the
primary filter.

AMSOIL synthetic
diesel oil is specially engineered to last longer in service and
perform better than any competitive product on the market. AMSOIL’s
published ASTM and SAE tests and over thirty years of satisfied
customers prove it.
I was recently attending AMSOIL's
anniversary convention, which was also attended by Bobby Unser.
Bobby got up on stage and told about how his race car differentials
could not survive more than one race up Pikes Peak without needing
to be rebuilt, until he started using AMSOIL. Then his differentials
went all race season without needing to be rebuilt. This experience
in Bobby's early years of racing began his long relationship with
AMSOIL in all his race cars. Bobby went on to say that
AMSOIL
is the Best Lubricant made, the Standard to which all others are
judged," Bobby Unser 3-time Indy 500 Winner,
35 overall Indy Car wins, & 13-time Pikes Peak Hill Climb Winner.
AMSOIL has a historic commitment to manufacturing quality
products. In over 33 years of business AMSOIL INC has NEVER been
cited for a single quality related issue. There are not too many, if
any, other companies out there with a track record like AMSOIL's.
I hope that this initial introduction serves to provide the necessary
background so that you will take the time review the other links on
this website for your specific vehicle. There is a wealth of useful

8.2% More
MPG
with AMSOIL Synthetic Lubricants
Replacing
popular conventional engine and driveline lubricants
with AMSOIL synthetic lubricants in Class 8
diesel-fueled vehicles increases fuel mileage up to
8.2% according
to the findings of an independent test facility.
Fuel accounts for roughly 37 percent
of Class 8 truck operating expenses, and reducing
fuel expenses is a top priority for truck operators.
AMSOIL is the leader in the race to
develop fuel efficient low-viscosity lubricants for
trucking and other heavy-duty diesel applications.
Independent laboratory testing shows AMSOIL Series
3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil in the
engine and AMSOIL synthetics in the drivetrain
provide up to 8.2 percent more miles-per-gallon than
other popular lubricants provide.
Introduction
At the request of AMSOIL INC., an independent
research institute conducted a month-long test
com-paring the fuel consumption of Class 8 diesel
trucks equipped with AMSOIL synthetic lubricants to
Class 8 diesel trucks equipped with conventional
lubricants.
The research institute used the SAE
J1321 Joint TMC/SAE Fuel Consumption Test
Procedure-Type II, an industry standard test
procedure for comparing in-service fuel consumption
of a vehicle operated under two conditions, one with
the control lubricants in place, the other with the
test lubricants in place.
Vehicles and
Route
The
three test and one control vehicles were 1995
International Model 9200 truck-tractors with Cummins
M-11 engines (rated at 350 hp at 1600 rpm), Fuller
RTXF 14710B transmissions, Eaton Model DS/RS 404
drive axles (3.90 ratio), 11R-24.5 low-profile tires
and new oil and air filters. All four vehicles had
been operated between 250,000 and 285,000 miles
prior to the study.
The trucks were equipped with
auxiliary weigh fuel tanks and quick disconnect
couplings to facilitate accurate data gathering.
Each truck pulled a 45-foot long flatbed trailer
equipped with 11R-24.5 low-profile tires and loaded
with concrete blocks so that the gross vehicle
weight (GVW) of each vehicle was 75,550 +/-100 lbs.
The
test route represented typical long-haul interstate
highway operations, with asphalt road surfaces and
generally flat terrain. The low traffic density
route covered a total of 40 miles with a 20-mile
southbound segment and the return north-bound
segment. Fuel consumption was measured separately
for each direction.
Lubricants
and Fuels
The control lubricants were Shell Rotella T 15W-40
for the engines, Quaker State SAE 90 for the
transmissions and Citco 85W-140 for the drive axles.
The control truck used the control lubricants for
all driving segments and the test trucks used the
control lubricants for their baseline segments.
The test lubricants were AMSOIL
Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30 Heavy Duty Diesel Oil
for the engines, AMSOIL Series 2000 Synthetic 20W-50
Racing Oil for the transmissions and AMSOIL Series
2000 Synthetic 75W-90 Gear Lube for the drive axles.
The test vehicles used the test lubricants for their
test segments.
All vehicles used Exxon No. 2 diesel
fuel dispensed from the same storage tank for all
driving segments.
Procedure
Each test vehicle ran a baseline segment, in which
the truck was equipped with the control lubricants,
and three test segments, in which it was equipped
with test lubricants. The control vehicle
concurrently ran each driving segment using control
lubricants.
Conditions including speed, tire
pressure, headlight and fan use and window openings
were held constant between all vehicles in each
driving segment. Finally, testing proceeded only if
wind direction, wind speed and temperature were
within test parameters.
Results
The weight of fuel consumed by each test vehicle and
the weight of fuel consumed by the control vehicle
in each driving segment were used to determine the
percentage of fuel saved and the percentage fuel
efficiency improvement obtained by the test
lubricants. Results outside 2 percent of the norm
were discarded.
Findings
The vehicles equipped with AMSOIL synthetic
lubricants in the engines, transmissions and drive
axles demonstrated up to an 8.2 percent increase in
miles per gallon (mpg) over the mpg obtained by the
vehicles equipped with the control lubricants.
Discussion
Test conditions were held close to ideal for maximum
fuel economy. In many instances of less-than-ideal
conditions, the synthetic test lubricants would have
provided even more fuel economy improvement. For
example, synthetics superior cold temperature
fluidity provides a larger proportion of fuel
savings in cold operating conditions.
Additionally, while the present
study did not include analysis of wear control, wear
control is an important issue with low viscosity
lubricants and one fully addressed by AMSOIL through
additional testing.
Traditionally, the benefit of
improved fuel economy provided by low viscosity
lubricants is offset by a penalty in wear control.
Such is not the case with Series 2000 and 3000
lubricants, as evidenced by Four-Ball Wear testing
conducted by an independent laboratory (results
shown on product labels) and a growing body of
demonstration and on-road data.
For
example, an ongoing fleet demonstration is providing
evidence of the excellent wear control of Series
3000. Since January 1996, AMSOIL and a northern tier
trucking fleet have been conducting a demonstration
using Series 3000 in the 1996 Cummins N-14 ESP3
engines of five 1996 Kenworth class 8 trucks.
The trucks traveled 125,000 miles
with-out an oil change and the rate of wear metal
generation found in used Series 3000 samples was
lower than that found in used control oil, Pennzoil
Long Life 15W-40, which is changed at 20,000-mile
intervals.
Additionally, the viscometrics of
the AMSOIL fluids provide a wear control benefit in
cold temperature applications since low viscosity
fluids flow more freely in cold temperatures than
high viscosity fluids do. Oils that flow easily in
cold temperatures provide faster post-startup wear
protection in cold engines than do less fluid oils.
They also provide easier starting and reduced
battery drain.
Finally, AMSOIL product users are
protected by the AMSOIL warranty, which, unlike
warranties offered by other oil companies, is not
limited by time or mileage and does not require user
registration and approval.
Conclusion
AMSOIL synthetic engine, transmission and drive axle
lubricants provide a safe and effective means to
significantly increase class 8 truck fuel economy.
AMSOIL Series 3000 Synthetic 5W-30
Heavy Duty Diesel Motor Oil provides better wear
protection than these popular high viscosity diesel
oils. In fact, independent testing showed the
high-viscosity oils tested produced wear scars up to
45 percent larger than that of Series 3000.
What Does a
Savings of 8.2% Mean?
Imagine a fleet of 100 class 8
vehicles running an average 120,000 miles per year
at an average 6.5 mpg with diesel fuel at $1.35 a
gallon. The fleet spends $2,492,308 on fuel
annually. Now imagine the fleet uses AMSOIL products
and improves its miles-per-gallon by 8.2 percent.
The fleet now spends $2,303,427 on fuel annually.
Thats a
savings of $188,881! That money could buy
a years worth of AMSOIL synthetic lubricants for the
fleet plus a years fuel for 3 to 6 trucks with cash
left over!
